Here are some of my favorite new sites that are showing up on the web. These are not my sites, but they are the kinds of things that I like in a website. There are different reasons that I picked these sites, they all look good, are clear and easy to use. Sometimes I just like the name.
I will update this page as my time permits.
Keywords in your copy are one of the most important ways to get visitors to your site from the search engines. Just getting the visitors to your site won’t do you any good if they leave right away because your copy was optimized for the search engines, but not your human visitors.
Karon Thackston has written a good article published on businessknowhow.com. She talks about how to use keywords in your text without making them sound mechanical, like they were stuffed into the content.
It’s so easy that anyone can do it.
1) Go to wikimapia.org
2) Select the section of the map that you want. On the top right there is a menu, you can click on Wikimapia to search for your location.
3) On the top right menu there is a selection for the type of map. You can choose from the traditional map, a satelite view or a hybrid combination of both. You can also choose your language here.
4) Click on Wikimapia and then “map on your page” and the html code will appear just below your selection.

It’s a shame, they could make them work right, but won’t.
Here?s something for some fun on a Friday. (Not responsible if you get caught playing at work)
A fully funcitonal machine gun with TWELVE rotating barrels and a live action trigger. Loads 12 bands per barrel for a whopping 144 rubber bands that shoot off as fast as you can turn the handle! Great fun for kids of all ages. MORE than just an amazing machine, this is a true work of art.
Only $395 (be sure to wear safety glasses)
Many times how a site looks and how a site works can conflict with each other. I have found that many of my clients don’t care nearly as much about how their site works. This can be a big problem. Imagine that you have found the most beautiful site that you have ever seen, but you can’t find what you are looking for. What do you do? Maybe click once or twice and then leave or maybe just leave. I don’t believe there are many people who will search and search until they find what they are looking for unless the visitor has already tried and failed finding what they are looking for elsewhere.
Today it’s much too easy to just go elsewhere to find what you are looking for and I think that’s why there are many ugly sites that get so much traffic.
Accessite.org has an article contributed by Tommy Olsson on the many factors involved.
I have always advised my clients using dynamic pages to use mod rewrites to make their pages more search engine friendly. It is almost always advised for pages with more than two parameters.
Here’s a new article on Threadwatch about “One Of The Best SEO Tools [mod rewrite] Now The Biggest Security Risk.” If this is true it could be a huge risk.
The Apache Foundation released versions to fix the exploit within mod_rewrite.
