A Favorite New Site – Galuppi’s
I have a page on my site with some of my favorite new sites that are showing up on the web. These are not my sites, but they are the kinds of things that I like in a website. There are different reasons that I picked these sites, they all look good, and are clear and easy to use. They don’t use Flash at all or use it only when necessary and never for navigation. The graphics are good, but not overpowering. Sometimes I just like a picture or the name. Some of them are not in English and I still know what they are about.![]()
The newest one is called Galuppi’s in Pompano Beach. It’s a place for wedding receptions and you know that right away. The main page includes a flash slideshow with some nice photos of people having a great time at their wedding. The flash is not used for navigation or any of the “real” content. The navigation is clear and easy to find and use.
It does seem more designers are using gray text on their pages and while it may look better aesthetically I think it’s harder to read than black on white.
I think it very good and valuable to have a current events or “what’s happing” section on your site like the “LIVE MUSIC” section here. Unfortunately if you are not willing or able to keep it current you may be better off skipping it. I believe having an outdated what’s happening section (or any section) is worse than having none at all.
