Favorite New Site - Barn Painting and Advertising

Filed under: Favorite Sites — Jim @ 8:39 am

I have a page on my site with some of my favorite new sites that are showing up on the web. These are not my sites, but they are the kinds of things that I like in a website. There are different reasons that I picked these sites, they all look good, and are clear and easy to use. They don’t use Flash at all or use it only when necessary and never for navigation. The graphics are good, but not overpowering. Sometimes I just like a picture or the name. Some of them are not in English and I still know what they are about.
Barn Painting and Advertising

The newest one is called Barn Painting and Advertising Inc. a company that specializes in roof top advertising on barns and traditional barn painting. The site looks just like what they do. It has a country feel and even though the navigation is on the right, there is no doubt about where it is and what it’s for. The look of this site tells their story well before you even get to the words.

I do think if you are going to put a copyright date on your pages you need to keep them current. Their news is also a bit old and the link leads to a PDF which should have been an HTML page that would be able to be read by search engines.

They used pictures of words for navigation, but probably could have gotten the same effect with actual text for links. The pictures do have the same name as the links so I suppose that’s not such a big deal.

  2. I was amused to read that “Barn Painting & Advertising” was listed on your “favorite new site” page. Besides being filled with half-truths and embellishments, this webpage appears to have been designed by a child.
The “rooftop advertising” specialty is missing from any and all posted “work” pictures. Not to mention (per their previous occupations), neither owner/CEO has any background in advertising.
The “Press Releases” section documents their “frustration” against “bureaucracy” and the development of a Flight 93 Memorial. They themselves stated they would announce the barn location in April, 2007. A design winner in June, 2007 for their planned “barn” memorial and would unveil said memorial on 9/11/07. Their homepage now states the memorial is “taking longer than expected” but, “is moving forward”. I do believe the “bureaucracy” fairy has interfered with them as well as the true memorial. They should publicly apologize to the people who are working hard to produce the true memorial.
The freedom is yours to post any site you wish, but if you want the internet followers to find you credible- you may want to research your posted sites a little more indepth.
    Thank you, Stacy Barnes

  3. My purpose in posting these sites is to show sites with “looks” that I like. It may be filled with half truths, I don’t know that’s your claim.

I disagree with your statement that it looks like it’s been “designed by a child”. I think it looks simple, but professional and probably it’s effective.
I have also seen sites that I like that look like that they were designed by a child if it suits their purpose.

I had a look at my logs and noticed that you came to my site by searching Google for “barn painting & advertising”. I’m guessing by that and your knowledge of the owner you came here already having an ax to grind.

  4. Dear Jim,

Thank you for your reply and please know I do have a personal interest. I believe that honesty, in any capacity (whether a website or written word), is foremost. You may be looking at appearance, I am looking at quality. If a website is dowgrading the group attempting to erect a memorial to 9/11, by indicating they can do it quicker (because the bureaucracy doesn’t effect them)- they should be called out on it.
My response was not directed at your personal taste, but it was directed at credibility on the internet.

    Have a great day, Stacy

You were correct in your first assesment……….. Stacy Barnes is a disgruntled sister in law. I believe she thinks of us much more than we think of her. The fact you had to deal with her is proof of that. Thank you for the compliments we have made changes and are continuing to make changes per your suggestions.
