I have a page on my site with some of my favorite site designs that are showing up on the web. These are not my sites, but they are the kinds of designs that I like in a website. There are different reasons that I picked these site designs, they all look good and are clear and easy to use. The graphics are good, but not overpowering. Sometimes I just like a picture or the name. Some of the sites are not in English and I still know what they are about.
The newest one is called Sign Solutions Services.
I am not normally a fan of black backgrounds because I think they usually look so 1996 and is a bit hard on the eyes. Modern designs have more white and rounded corners, but this site seems to make it work very well.
It may be that the slideshow right at the top of the first page gives it a more modern look. Flash used for the slideshow is not used for navigation. It’s in plain text which is best for SEO.
This site looks very nice. It tells you right away what they do and how they do it. Simple and elegant.

The newest one is called Tennessee Winter.
I probably should have written about this site earlier but now that winter is over I can look at the snow as a beautiful thing. It’s just hard to do that when you’re shoveling it.
This site looks like a winter wonderland. I even like the moving snowflakes script. It adds to the effect of the site and since it not used for something critical like navigation it won’t be missed even if the visitor has JavaScript turned off.
All of the navigation is in plain text with the main navigation right at the top. The current events are on both sides of the content in two different formats (text and calendar) so they won’t be missed.

The newest one is called Sheridan Oregon.
This is a site about, well, Sheridan Oregon. You can easily tell from the site that this is an area that features wine, lumber, wide open spaces and easy living. The purple and tan (colors that I use myself) are easy on the eyes. They are colors that goes well with the grapes that are their feature product.
The navigation and content is in plain text. The navigation is right at the top of the page in plain sight, but the font could be bigger without hurting the look of the site.

The newest one is called First Light Landscaping.
A nice looking site done in earth tones. It looks like what they do, landscaping.
I like how that anywhere you click in the header goes to their contact page. The main goal of this site seems to be to get you to request a free quote and they make sure to ask you to request one several times. The navigation is very clear and the green stands out very well against the brown “dirt” background.
To do better with the search engines more content would be better, but these posts are about the design of the sites that I like and I like this one.

The newest one is called Cottonseed Oil Tour.
Looks like an old fashioned country store for “America’s Original Vegetable Oil”. The site looks like what it is. Navigation is clear, easy to use and right at the top.
They ask for your story and sign up for their newsletter right up front.
I think that this is a great site for this promotion.

The newest one is called Free Rice.
This is a site that teaches you vocabulary, but also donates rice to the hungry of the world. The site looks like a rice field. The navigation is very clear as to what it means.
The only thing that I don’t like is that the navigation at the top blends into the background a bit too much.
Overall I think it’s a good looking site that is educational and supports a great cause.

The newest one is called Stemilt Creek Winery.
It’s a rustic looking site that is about wine. Is there any doubt? It could be in any language and you would know that right away. I love the look of the grapes growing right out of the picture. The navigation is easy to find and I like that they let you know what page that you are on
I also like that they ask you to sign up for their newsletter right on the navigation bar and have a simple to use form.

The newest one is called Estepona Rental. Looks like a beautiful place to live. Sun, fun, and the beach! It’s fitting for a post card. It makes me want to travel to Spain to see it in person.
The navigation is right at the top, but is a bit hidden. I might make it stand out a bit more, but overall the site looks great.

Even though the only words that I can read are “take away” I know where the menu is and it’s simple to use.
