Software Recommendation – Scribus

December 30, 2006 - Filed under: Favorite Sites,Information — Tags:

In the past I have used OpenOffice.org Impress for page layout, but I downloaded Scribus today.
Scribus is Open Source Desktop Publishing like Pagemaker or Quark.
It’s for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows

First of all it comes from Sourceforge so I trust it right away.
It’s not very big, about 18MB.
and at first glance it seems pretty cool.

When I first install the program, Scribus tells me that I should have Ghostscripts.
Ghostscripts is another free program needed to read .pdf files.
I installed it, but it is not necessary to have Ghostscripts to run Scribus.

The control panel is very nice, it’s easy to set up the document.
The color wheel is an excellent tool.
The calender wizard alone is worth the download
I made a cool 2007 calender in a couple of minutes

I can highly recommend Scribus a FREE Open Source Program.
