Pittsburgh Zoo new polar bear exhibit, Water's Edge
The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium's new polar bear exhibit will open in fall 2006. Their new bears arrived in June from the Denver Zoo where they were born. They are two brothers, born November 25, 2004 (Thanksgiving Day). They are very active and are really enjoying their pool and dig yard in the quarantine area. The pair will remain behind the scenes while work continues on their new exhibit.
The first phase of Water's Edge -polar bears- will open in fall 2006. Sea otters will arrive shortly after to complete the second phase of the exhibit. Finally, when Water's Edge, is completed, in April 2007, you also will watch amazing walruses swimming in a large swim channel and walk through two underwater tunnels to get the thrill of polar bears and walruses swimming overhead.
