As a follow up to my Refer A Friend post from yesterday, my brother-in-law forwarded me an e-mail about a new technique used by criminals to break into your house called “lock bumping”.
It’s a pretty scary story that I had not heard before, but I’m sure has been passed around quite a bit lately.
What I’m writing about today is the promotion idea involved. I have previously written about how “Talk Like A Pirate Day” is a great promotion and what I noticed about this e-mail is that it included a link to a locksmith that had a YouTube video from a local news story about “Lock Bumping” embedded in his page. This is a wonderful promotion idea for the locksmith.
- He’s helping people solve this horrible problem, so he’s the good guy.
- He’s getting hundreds (thousands) of people forwarding this e-mail and promoting his site for free
- Even though the video looks like it’s on his site it is actually in an iframe from YouTube and so it is not using his resources (bandwidth). YouTube has plenty of storage and bandwidth.
This is a great promotion idea.
