Do Visitors Ignore Ads?

September 6, 2007 - Filed under: web design — Tags:

There’s a post by Jason Lee Miller on the WebProNews site called “If It Looks Like An Ad They Ignore It” where he suggests that visitors will skip right over a section of a web page that they think is an ad. They will do this even if that section only looks like an ad, but actually contains good content. The visitor only has to think that a section of a page MAY contain ads and they will ignore it.

You may want to read this post and think about it the next time you are making a page, but it makes you wonder how Google is able to make billions from advertising.

If this is true then visitors must be making a conscious choice to click on an ad, but only after they have been unable to find what they were searching for in the organic results. Come to think of it, that’s usually what I do.

This is another great reason to optimize your pages to make sure that you’re found in the organic search results for your keywords.
