What Makes A Great Site

Filed under: web design — Tags: ,

When I’m advising someone about how to design and lay out a new website I always try to think about it with the search engines in mind. There are some basic things, like navigation, that really matter.

Jill Whalen of High Rankings wrote an interesting post on searchengineland called “Don’t Sweat the Small SEO Stuff”. She talks about many things that I believe in. The things that matter to search engines are generally the exact same things that matter to your visitor. Design your site with your visitor in mind. Make it easy to use and navigate. Keep adding content that is useful and fresh.

The things that really makes a great site are that first you have what people are looking for, second is that people can easily find what they are looking for and third is to bring them back again because they know there will be more of what they are looking for.
