What’s Up With Syracuse?

I was “downsized” about a year and a half ago so I thought I would see if I could make a business for myself doing something I love, designing websites.

I found that occasionally posting ads on Craigslist was a good way to get the word out. I designed a couple of different ads and posted them a couple of times a month in cities near where I have a customer or two.

It seems that any time I post on the “Syracuse Computer Services” page my post gets flagged. When I check my server logs it seems there have only been a few people look at my ad.
I am wondering if one person is somehow able to flag my ads or are the Web designers in Syracuse that afraid of a small time competitor?

Feel free to comment.

  1. I sort of agree with you. As a local designer I’ve seen a lot of really lame advertisements from other designers with grand promises to be the cheapest and beat any competitors prices. When really, there is not that much of a market shortage. Their are plenty of potential clients out there for every designer, the trouble is reaching them.

Personally, I feel that I have too much pride to use marketing practices like that. I want clients because they like my style and are fans of my work. My prices are going to stay the same. I value my work. Most of my clients come from word of mouth. Other clients speak well and refer them to me.

I wish you the best with working in the Syracuse market. I’m not sure who is flagging your posts, but I will say it’s most definately not me.

  2. Sorry for the typos, spelling, and grammatical errors. My brain usually doesn’t start to fully function until about 10 or 11. 🙂

  3. Thanks for the comments.
What really gets me is that I know that I know it’s only one person doing this. Because there is a picture in my ad I can view their IP and such in my logs. Sometimes it goes down so fast they are the only one who views it.

One flag is not supposed to be able to take down an ad so I know this person is soing something shady.
