Here’s something for some fun on a Friday. (Not responsible if you get caught playing at work)
I’ve had Project Gutenberg before here three years ago. I don’t usually repeat these posts, but with the new iPad, Android, iPhone, Kindle, Sony Reader (or others) it’s more relevant than ever.
Over 30,000 free high quality ebooks to read. Previously published on paper by bona fide publishers and digitized with with the help of thousands of volunteers. All ebooks can be easily downloaded: Choose between ePub, Mobipocket, HTML and simple text formats.
No fee or registration is required, but if you like it you can help keep them going.

If you’ve been snowed in all week like me you may have gone through many of your entertainment options. My last Friday Fun post was about streaming video to your TV. Today here’s some good free stuff to watch!
Did you know that there are many movies to watch on YouTube? Well if you didn’t know you do now and you should definitely check them out.
I have spent quite a bit of time watching TED. If you haven’t heard of TED, it’s a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. Definitely worth checking out.

If you are thinking about a new media device. DLNA looks to be a really good home audio/video network standard.
Streaming video from the Internet is very cool, costs much less than cable and can only keep getting better.
It was the least expensive box I could find. I’ll let you know once it gets here.
PlayOn also works on XBox PS3 Wii. Otherwise I recommend the VuNow player.
I hope everyone that celebrates it had a very good Christmas and New Year.
I like to look for good free things.
I use quite a bit of freeware and open source programs so to celebrate the new year I’m writing this post with a few of my favorites.
#1 – I like Firefox. You can plug in so many very cool tools. They are endless.
Superedi is a great text editor.
Thunderbird 3 is a very good new product from Mozilla. It doesn’t support a calendar yet, but I like 3 much better than 2.

I’ve recommended Elf Yourself before and it’s back again. The very popular Elf Yourself is still a lot of fun. You can save your movie and pass it around as well.

Monstermashup.com is a site like Elf Yourself or Simpsonize Me where you can add your picture to make a cool animated video for some Halloween fun. You can also choose from several scenes. Very Cool.

Extreme Pumpkin Carving is a site that features lots of very cool Jack-O-Lanterns. Some are perfect for a fun family project. Others should never be tried at home, but are great Friday Fun to look at.

On Fridays I usually try to provide just plain fun and time wasting things to do, but lately I decided I wanted to find something good and helpful to do. Then I got an email from the AARP that provided me a site to do just that. Create The Good.
AARP is providing a great list of volunteer opportunities for almost anyone. Whether you would help out at a senior center calling Bingo numbers or help with crafts at a cancer center, there are many, different and mostly local things that you can do to help your community and make yourself feel good, too.

Without anything even close the Friday Fun Site where I recommended Simsonizeme. Due to the fact that it’s almost always busy well over two years later, I have to believe that it may have been one of Burger King’s most popular promotions ever. This is a great example of how giving something away can be a wonderful promotion for your business.
Today Netflix is trying something similar to honor the 70th Anniversary of The Wizard or OZ. They offer you a page where you can upload your photo and appear in the movie. You can share it with your friends, but I don’t think that you can save it (the entertainment companies won’t let you have that much fun) so it probably won’t be as popular as Simpsonizeme, but it’s still good fun for a Friday.

SparkTop.org is run by the Professor Garfield Foundation (PGF), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the FREE delivery of fun, engaging educational content. Jim Davis, creator of Garfield the Cat, had to overcome asthma and a stutter as a young child and feels that ALL of us have some challenge to overcome as we learn.
They say it’s is a place where kids who learn differently can create awesome stuff, but I think it can be for everyone.
